State of Asylum

Funded by the Scottish Council on Global Affairs, the State of Asylum project is a series of events and outputs to help the general public and incoming cohort of Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSPs) understand the human rights stakes involved in debates over asylum and refuge in the UK and Scotland.

In addition to a public Roundtable event drawing on academic expertise on asylum in the UK, and closed Policy Workshop with civil servants and NGO workers, the project has produced a 4-episode podcast miniseries featuring the insights of experts by experience.

The State of Asylum podcast centres the voices of asylum seekers, and those who work with them, to communicate the lived realities of the UK asylum system and dispel the misinformation that characterises public discourse on asylum. Each episode focuses on a different aspect of UK asylum policy: Sanctuary, Detention, Housing, and Right to Work.
